Everyone Wants Your Money — But Are You Fighting to Keep It?

We are in the middle of May, which means summer is right around the corner.
And if you’re a parent, you already know what that means:
Summer camp registrations.Swimming lessons.Activity sign-ups.Vacation planning.
As I sat down this week registering my kids for day camp and summer activities, something dawned on me.
I’ve been receiving camp emails since February.
Different organizations letting me know:
what they offer
why their program is special
and how excited they are to see us this summer
And then it hit me even more.
They are doing the exact same thing advertisers do every single day.
Everyone Is Competing for the Money in Your Pocket
Every business, organization, store, app, and company is competing for your attention and ultimately your money.
And they plan for it.
Months ahead.
They:
market
send reminders
create urgency
offer incentives
and stay visible long before you’re ready to spend
Why?
Because they understand something important:
If they don’t intentionally go after your money, someone else will.
But What About Us?
And that made me stop and think:
If companies are spending months and thousands of dollars trying to get us to spend our hard-earned money with them…
Shouldn’t we spend at least some time learning how to:
keep more of our money
manage it better
and build a life that gives us peace instead of pressure?
Because the truth is, many people spend more time planning vacations than planning their finances.
More time researching camps than reviewing their budget.
More time responding to marketing than responding to their own financial goals.
The Money Lesson
If you are not intentional with your money, someone else will gladly be intentional for you.
That doesn’t mean we stop spending.
It means we become more aware:
of where our money is going
why we’re spending it
and whether it aligns with the life we’re trying to build
Planning Before the Pressure
One thing I’m realizing more and more is this:
Financial peace rarely happens accidentally.
It comes from preparation.
Just like these organizations planned months ahead for summer enrollment, we also have to plan ahead for the financial seasons we know are coming.
Because summer expenses are not surprises.
They are patterns.
Final Thought
There will always be someone trying to get your attention and your money.
That part will never stop.
The real question is:
Are you spending as much time learning how to manage your money as other people are spending trying to get you to spend it?
This is exactly the kind of work I help clients navigate every day — learning how to become more intentional with money so it supports the life they’re trying to build instead of constantly feeling like it’s slipping away.
