Summer Fun Without the Financial Burn
Summer is officially here, which means school is out, the sun is shining, and your grocery and utility bills are probably climbing. But it also means more family time: walks around the neighborhood, backyard fun, park days, hikes, and visits to museums, theme parks, or the zoo.
Here’s one tip that can save you big:
Before heading out to any attraction, visit their website and check their food policy. If outside food is allowed, bring your own! Food is often on of the biggest expenses on outings. And with kids, it always feels like someone is hungry every 20 minutes.
Here’s what we do in my family.:
Pack a cooker with fruits, veggies, sandwiches, and plenty of water.
Set the expectation: “We’ll buy one treat today, maybe that special snack or ice cream but the rest we’ll bring from home”
Even if outside food isn’t allowed, all is not lost. Check if you can leave and re-enter the park. If yes, plan a picnic break at the car. Just be sure to get your hand stamped for reentry. As my mom always says: “where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
Wishing you and your family a joyful and safe summer full of fun and financial mindfulness.
