The Freedom to Give Without Worry

July 8, 2026

This past weekend, our country celebrated its 250th anniversary.

Like many people, I spent the holiday with family and friends, attending two different cookouts.

Although they couldn't have been more different, I left both feeling incredibly grateful.

The first gathering was small and relaxing.

We caught up with friends, enjoyed grilled chicken with homemade sides and fresh lemonade, and ended the evening watching an incredible fireworks display.

The host loves fireworks.

It's his tradition.

Every year he puts on a show for his family and friends, and I have to say—it was one of the best fireworks displays I've ever seen.

The second cookout was full Jamaican style.

A DJ played great music while everyone laughed, danced, and enjoyed an incredible spread of food.

There was jerk chicken, jerk pork, escovitch fish, curry chicken, curry chickpeas, fish soup, rice and peas, macaroni and cheese... and enough food to feed an army.

The atmosphere was completely different.

But something about both gatherings stayed with me.

Two Different Celebrations. One Common Theme.

As I sat there taking it all in, I realized both hosts had something in common.

They were creating joy.

They were using what they had to bring people together.

One did it through fireworks.

The other through food, music, and laughter.

Neither celebration looked the same.

But both reflected generosity.

Both reflected hospitality.

And both reflected fulfillment.

What Money Can Make Possible

It reminded me that financial freedom isn't just about buying bigger houses or nicer cars.

Sometimes it's much simpler than that.

Financial freedom is having the ability to gather the people you love without worrying whether you can afford to do it.

It's being able to give.

To host.

To celebrate.

To create memories.

To be generous.

Without money being the thing that limits your joy.

That, to me, is wealth.

Why We Build Wealth

Sometimes people think building wealth is about accumulating more.

I don't believe that's the whole story.

I believe we build wealth so we have choices.

So we can respond to opportunities.

So we can help others.

So we can create experiences.

So we can leave a legacy that goes beyond money itself.

Watching both of those hosts this weekend reminded me that they weren't simply spending money.

They were investing in relationships.

And everyone there benefited from it.

Final Thought

One day, I hope all of us reach a place where money is no longer the reason we say "no" to the people and experiences that matter most.

Not because we're wealthy beyond imagination.

But because we've been intentional enough to build a financial life that gives us freedom.

Freedom to enjoy.

Freedom to give.

Freedom to gather.

Because at the end of the day, those are the moments we remember.
